Residents turn to psychic medium to contact loved ones

|Forum Publishing Group/Sun Sentinal

Ever since Joseph LoBrutto, 45, of Wellington, was 2 he knew he was different. At that age he said he was visited by spirits. At 10 he was visited by his grandmother that had died. Now 34 years later LoBrutto is a full-time psychic medium.

"My dad thought they were nightmares, but apparently they weren't," he said.

About a year ago he was a full-time photographer and videographer. But that all changed after he self-published a book "Is There More to Life...Than We Know?" Soon after that he was twice contacted by MediumChannel.com for readings. He said that they did not identify themselves in order to test his abilities. They must have believed him, he said, because they now list him on their Web site as one of the best psychic mediums. "I believe that God or the universe puts us in the place where we need to be," he said.

He regularly conducts private readings in person and over the phone, hosts galleries, has an Internet radio show, teaches psychic classes and is a reiki master. He also is filming a pilot to a television show that he conceived and is hoping it will be picked up by a major network.

But is it for real?

"I have skeptics that come out. The more skeptical they are, the harder time I have reading them," he said. "You have to have an open mind and just believe it's possible."

Deirdre Abrami was not a skeptic when she first met LoBrutto, but she wanted to make sure he was the real deal before she invited him onto her radio show "Angel Hour with Deirdre Abrami" that airs from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays on WBZT 1230 AM. She attended one of LoBrutto's galleries about a week after her grandfather died. When she saw her grandfather alive for the last time she blew him a kiss and said, "I'll see you soon." LoBrutto claimed to make contact with her grandfather and at the end he told her he had a message for her. He blew her a kiss and said, "I'll see you soon." She invited him on her show and he now appears regularly.

Abrami, who is also a psychic and teaches classes, said LoBrutto took a course with her. At the end of the course she brought in a man and asked LoBrutto to "read" him. She said LoBrutto was insistent that the man had two older brothers. The man, however, insisted he did not. LoBrutto told the man his mother must have had a miscarriage. Abrami said later that the man asked his mother about it and she admitted it was true.

"He's a really good medium," she said. "He's the real deal, as they say. He bridges the gap between the deceased loved one and a person. I've seen him help grieving people and bring details forward that only they would know. It's incredible."

For Mary Collins, of the Acreage, her validation of LoBrutto's abilities came when he related a story to her about her deceased father. She said she only vaguely remembered the story at the time. But she verified the story with her sister, who remembered it clearly.

Beth Amado, of Boca Raton, attended LoBrutto's gallery at the Witch's Hat in Royal Palm Beach. She said it was her first time going to a medium.

"I want to try it again," she said. "He was right on when he was talking about my dad."

But she also said that LoBrutto appeared nervous during the event, and she became skeptical. Days after the gallery, she said she wished she had not gotten skeptical because she believes the reading would have been more fulfilling.

"I went in with an open mind, but at the last minute I became skeptical," she said. "I think it hindered my reading."
