 Passage from Chapter One

Is There More To Life Than What We Know?

When I look back at my life I can see the foundation of events for how my life    was to be. It started when I was a child; back then I had the special gift of seeing spirits. My childhood visions were a common occurrence for me.

One of the spirits I could see was a Native American. First I would hear the beating of drums in the distance and as I listened, the drums came closer and louder. Out of nowhere, the figure of the Native American would appear. He was a tall man with long flowing hair and appeared to have the strength of ten bears. He looked proud, like a warrior. When he visited, the Native American would bring his environment with him. We would see the bear cubs playing in the stream or a wolf pack on the hunt. Sometimes we would materialize together on top of a mountain and talk while looking over the beauty of the earth. It was as if I were being taken back in time to when the earth was young and pure. I watched as he played his drum, singing to the heavens. He would point his finger to the sky and a ring of smoke would appear. The smoke ring would float around and encircle me. I now know that the ring of smoke represented the Circle of Life.

There were other spirits that visited me as a child as well. One that I recall quite vividly was the Irishman who would appear to me like a dream floating in the air with the surroundings of a rustic city behind him. He looked like a character right out of Dickens’ Oliver Twist.  The Irishman appeared to stand around five feet tall with curly hair that protruded from under what looked like an old shabby top hat. He wore a long-sleeved shirt with suspenders that crossed in the front and held a small pouch for bills under his arm. I could tell he was a jokester by the way he laughed as he tipped his hat towards me.
He was a cheery fellow who always tried to amuse me. I would watch him try to juggle what looked like potatoes, only to have them fall and roll all over the place.
I was surprised that my parents did not hear him, or me, laughing so hard!
Also, there was the man who looked to me like someone from early Biblical times.  He was dressed in an ancient gray-colored robe and he carried what looked to be a manuscript. He was weather-beaten, with a white beard.  He looked as though he had lived a very hard life, but a fulfilling one because he had mystical glow that surrounded his body. Every time I would see this man, he would be in a hurry.  However, he always acknowledged that I was there by smiling as he passed me by - only to vanish in thin air!

Most of the apparitions appeared to me in human form, except for the giant. This happened one night while I was sound asleep. I was awakened to find a face that wasn't human staring right at me. There was a large bright purple glow around its body and it appeared to be over twenty feet tall. I remember how my father ran up the stairs as I lay screaming and hiding under the covers. My father tried to comfort me by convincing me that it was all just a dream.

My father thought I had a very active imagination when I told him of the events.  He called them dreams, but even as a child, I knew they were not dreams. Finally, after a couple years of leaving the lights on, my visions of the beings stopped. Of course, now as a spiritually enlightened adult, I realize that these spiritual beings played a big part in my journey in life.
