That same year I saw a movie on television called Out on a Limb.  It was based on a book by a famous entertainer named Shirley MacLaine who had written about her metaphysical life experiences. In her movie, Shirley experienced her soul leaving her body. First it circled her physical body where it lay on the bed; then her soul took off like a rocket right through the roof and flew over the city, bird-like on an endless flight. The soul went higher and higher until it was in deep space, far beyond the earth and moon. A long silver cord was attached to the soul, keeping it grounded to the earth. I was mesmerized, watching how the events unfolded in the movie.

After seeing this movie, I wanted to learn more.  My ex-wife began to tell me of a similar experience she had when her body remained inert on the floor while her soul floated around. As she closed her eyes, she could see images. She described the experience as being quite similar to looking out of a window as she viewed different cultures of people and places.

In order for me to understand what she had seen, she drew a picture of one person she had seen during her out-of body experience on paper. It was a bearded man who wore what looked like an old tattered sailor’s cap covering his long grayish-black hair. His face was weathered and bore a scar just below his left eye, which was covered by a patch. He appeared to resemble a pirate of old. He was sitting at a table in what looked to be a library. The books on the shelves looked as old and weathered as the man. As she took a closer look at the books, she noticed that the titles of each binder had a person's name on it. The bearded man pointed to an open book on the table and asked her to read the title on the page. The book was called My Many Lives.  As she started to read the first paragraph of the book, she felt something pull her backwards away from the book and she then floated down the hallway and out of the building to return to her physical body.
